Step 4: Plan and Create Sales Discount Groups

Sales Discount Groups are essentially groups of customers. While there's more to it, for the purpose of this setup, think of them as Customers or Groups of Customers.

Planning Your Sales Customer Groups

Planning this step can feel complex because there are many ways to structure your discounts. The right setup depends on your business needs. Below, I’ll provide some examples to inspire your approach, but feel free to adapt them to suit your situation.

Before starting this step, make sure you’ve already completed these prerequisites:

  1. Uploaded Product Groups.

  2. Uploaded your Inventory.

  3. Uploaded Customers, and optionally, Customer Groups.

Example Discount Group Setup

To simplify planning, download the Sales Discount Group template. This template will help you map out your customer groups and corresponding discounts.

Here’s an example of how to use the template:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Add Customers to Groups:
    Begin by assigning customers to groups based on shared discount criteria. Use the second row to list your customer groups (e.g., "Builders," "Government Contracts," etc.).

  2. Plan Product Discounts (optional for now):
    You’ll eventually link products to these groups. For now, focus on organizing customers and discounts.

Example Customer Group Structures

Here are some ideas to structure your Sales Customer Groups:

By Industry or Type of Business:

  • Builders/Construction/Interior Designers

  • Government Contracts

  • Hospitals, Schools, Aged Care, Charities

  • Real Estate Agents

  • Retail Customers

Tiered Discounts:

  • Platinum: 50%

  • Gold: 20%

  • Silver: 10%

  • Bronze: 5%

Alternatively, you can create a unique discount for each individual customer if you negotiate different percentages.
